Today, Ashley Firefighters were called out for a report of several railroad ties and brush on fire. 111 E-2 and E-3 quickly responded and crews worked quickly to extinguish the fire and clean up hot spots in the surrounding ground cover.

Hello, my name is Jocelynne Krout and I am writing you with a very special request.

As you may have or may not have heard by now, early Friday morning on November 27, 2009, fire devastated the home of our friend and family member Lt. Chris Krout, Wright Township Fire Department Line Officer.

Chris and his family were on their way to a short vacation in North Carolina to help his wife’s sister do some home repairs. Their vacation was cut very short as soon as he received the news. When he and his family returned home, there was nothing remaining. The fire had consumed the entire house, garage and three vehicles before the fire department was notified and there was nothing that could have been done. We are all very thankful that Chris, his wife, Laura Townsend Krout, his son Christopher and daughter Brittany, and all of their pets were not in the home.

The family and friends are organizing the “Krout Family Fire Benefit” will be held on Friday, January 15, 2010 at Bentley’s Bar in Ashley, Pa at 7:00 pm.

Assist to Hanover Twp – 1/9/09

Ashley Fire-Rescue was dispatched to assist Hanover Twp. Emergency Services on Middle Road near the Industrial Park for a motor vehicle accident with entrapment early Saturday morning. Upon our arrival we were met by the crew of Rescue 5 and advised the patient was under the vehicle and a system of high lift jacks along with cribbing would be used to free the patient. A combination of over a dozen firefighters from both departments were used to complete the operation before paramedics from Hanover were able to transport the patient. An example of how great teamwork can be used to achieve a goal.

On December 20th, the Ashley Rescue Hose Co. held it’s annual Children’s Christmas Party. This event is put on by the ARHC for the children of Ashley Borough firefighters.

Accident Rt. 309 Near John Deere 12/9/09

Shortly after clearing from a garage fire, Ashley Fire Dept. was called out once again to a motor vehicle accident on Route 309 in the area of the John Deere dealer. The Rescue responded and found 2 vehicles in the roadway. Crews provided scene safety and hazards control while EMS tended to the occupants.

Late Wednesday evening units from Ashley Boro along with Wilkes-Barre and Hanover Townships were called to Coalville St. in Ashley for the report of a structure fire called in by Hanover Township PD. 111 Rescue arrived on scene to find a working fire. The crew quickly placed a line in service to put the fire under control. 111 Engine 2 laid a supply line from a hydrant on South Main St. Units were on scene for approximately an hour before returning to service.

Rollover Interstate 81 mm 165 12/2/09

Ashley Fire-Rescue along with Hanover Twp. Fire-Rescue and Fire Police, Ashley EMS, Medic 9 (Hanover) and Medic 19 (Spellman) were called to Interstate 81 Northbound near mile marker 165 for a report of a vehicle accident with rollover and possible entrapment. 111 Rescue along with other units responded within minutes. 137 E-6 arrived on scene and confirmed the accident to be in Ashley borough and there would be negative entrapment. EMS assisted the driver to the ambulance while fire personnel controlled traffic and cleaned up the roadway. I-81 was down to 1 lane for approximately 45 mins. before crews were able to clear the scene.

Wilkes-Barre Twp. Commercial 11/29/09

Ashley Fire-Rescue was called to assist Wilkes-Barre Twp. at the Wyoming Valley Mall in American Eagle for a possible structure fire. 111 Rescue responded with 4 and 111 Engine 2 responded with 3. We were met on scene by 188 Engine 3. Upon further investigation crews found some insulation on a light fixture smoking. Crews were released shortly thereafter.

Interstate 81 mm 164.9 10/4/09

Ashley Fire, along with Hanover Fire and EMS and Wilkes-Barre Township fire were called to the Interstate this afternoon for the report of a passenger bus that had lost a wheel, and that the wheel was on fire. 188-E3 and 111 Rescue responded shortly there after and searched mile marker 165. After a pass through Ashley’s coverage northbound the Rescue turned south and a portable on scene was able to confirm the accident was just before the off ramp of Exit 165 North. We arrived on scene to find a bus full of Scranton City firefighters returning from the National Fire Academy Memorial Service this weekend in Emmitsburg Maryland.

Ashley Rescue advised Wilkes-Barre Twp. E-3 that since all occupants were out of the vehicle and the heavy amount of traffic bottlenecking that they could go back in service. We remained on scene to block traffic until arrival of the state police. The Rescue assisted with transporting 15 firefighters off of the highway to the Perkins on Wilkes-Barre Twp. Boulevard before going back in service.
